Errance : carnets d’un photographe 2000-2020 is a record of my exploration of territories in crisis unfolding from France to South Sudan, from Lebanon to Tunisia via the Balkans, Dubai, Germany, the Chad and Libya in perfect independence and autonomy.

They create a bond between history, journalism and documentary. Composed by confrontations and comparisons, the essence of editing, these notebooks attempt to express the photographic unachievable made of resumptions, reverses. Constantly having to come back to the same places because we haven’t seen enough and because starting over, turning around, looking behind allows us to get to the heart of the issue and show new facets and, perhaps, to announce an upcoming project because success doesn’t matter.

This book is structured around four founding chapters (Lueur, Repli, Combats, Traces) and four friendly, vibrant voices (Catherine Breillat, Nicolas Hénin, Alain Rey, David Teboul) describing this journey between research and disarray, made of chance and of encounters.

A testimony which aspires to poetry, from the glimpse to the between-said, unique and raw, about our recent history.

Guillaume Lavit d’Hautefort

Guillaume Lavit d’Hautefort, born in 1974, became a photographer after studying architecture. After a work on  »Social Emergencies » of the Saint-Louis Hospital in Paris, he became interested in camps,  »evictions » – forced displaced people – and in migrations, after his first trips to Chad. Since then, he has continued questioning the relationship between humans, space and uprooting.
