Depuis plusieurs années, Greenpeace soutient le combat mené contre l’oubli et la justice, par les victimes de la catastrophe de Bhopal.
Le 3 décembre 1984, à Bhopal, en Inde, une fuite de gaz d’une usine américaine (La Union Carbide, racheté depuis par Dow Chemical) produisant des pesticides a entrainé la mort de 8.000 personnes dans les jours qui suivirent . On estime à plus de 150.000, les enfants, les femmes et les hommes victimes des blessures permanentes et invalidantes causées par ce désastre. Pourtant, à ce jour , bien peu a été fait pour vennir en aide aux victimes et les aider à vivre et travailler à nouveaux.
A l’occasion de la commémoration des 20 ans de la catastrphe de Bhopal, Greenpeace souhaite attirer l’attention sur un combat qui mérite d’être soutenu, à travers une exposition photographique.Celle-ci rassemble les clichés noir et blanc de Raghu Rai, célèbre photogrphe indien et les photos couleur de Viola Berlanda, jeune photographe italienne. Tous deux nous livrent le témoignage de leur séjour à Bhopal et des rencontres qu’ils y ont faites, à travers d’une galerie de portraits réalistes et poignants, qui ne peuvent laisser indifférents.
Since several years, Greenpeace fights against the fall into oblivion and for justice for the victims of the Bhopal disaster.
On December 3th 1984 in Bhopal, India, a gas leak of an american factory (the Union Carbide, bought out since by Dow chemical) producing pesticides has caused the death of 800 people in the days that followed. There is at least 150 000 people, children, women and men still suffering from permanent and disabling injury caused by this disaster. Yet very few had been done to help victims and help them live and work again.
For the commemoration of the 20 years of Bhopal’s disaster, Greenpeace wish to draw attention to a fight that diserve to be supported with a photographic exhibition. This exhibition gathers black and white negatives of Raghu Rai, famous indian photographer and the color pictures of Viola Berlanda, young italian photographer. Both of them gives us the account of their stay in Bhopal and the encounter they made, through a collection of portraits, realists and heartbreaking, that cannot leave unmoved.
Desde hace años que Greenpeace sostiene y apoya el combate contra el olvido y la justicia, para las víctimas de la catástrofe de Bhopal.
El 3 de Diciembre de 1984, en Bhopal (India), una pérdida de gaz de la fábrica americana (La Union Carbide, comprada posteriormente por Dow Chemical) productora de pesticidas causó la muerte de 8.000 personas. Se estima a más de 150.000, niños, mujeres y hombres víctimas de heridas permanentes e invalidantes consecuencias del desastre. A pesar de ello, nada o poco se hizo para ayudar a los damnificados a fin de retomar la vida y encontrar un trabajo.
Conmemorando el aniversario de los veinte años de la catástrofe, Greenpeace, llama la atención por este combate que merece ser tenido en cuenta, a través de una exposición fotográfica. Las fotografías en blanco y negro son del célebre fotógrafo hindú Raghu Rai y las fotos en color de la joven fotógrafa italiana Viola Berlanda. Ambos trabajos nos muestran el testimonio se sus estadías en Bhopal y los encuentros realizados. Una galería de retratos plenos de emoción y realismo que no pueden dejar indiferentes.
